Description
Here's the story of how I created this piece. The original, I created in Moscow -- near where my ancestors, my great grandparents came from, a little town called Minsk in Belle Russe, White Russia. It was in the late 80's, and coincidentally enough, it was also the exact same time when US President Ronald Reagan was visiting Mikail Gorbachev of the Soviet Union. It was the beginning of the days he heralded Perestroika, the revolutionary movement of a renewed spirit of hope for the Russian people.
I had met this gorgeous woman at the airport as part of the welcoming group who met our "Global Family" from the states upon first arrival. She and I enjoyed visiting art museums in her home town, and even though the only language we had in common was French, we sure enjoyed each other's company. She invited me to return when our group returned to her home town at the end of our tour through Russia. I was so excited to see her again. Bored with my group tour, I took an all-night train ride from Leningrad to Moscow -- only to find at the end of my journey that I was being met by her husband -- I didn't know she was married!
The rest of my days there I mainly spent with their teen-age daughter, taking long walks and swimming in the local lakes, singing Beatle songs and playing the piano with her. Yet mostly, I was bored.
One day, I picked up a book of famous Renaissance paintings. One inspired me to re-create this image of what I felt to be an angel playing a mandolin.
For me this symbolises the Longing of Our Soul to be AT ONE WITH ALL THAT IS, to celebrate the eternal union with one's internal Beloved
